The film ‘Prima Facie’, directed by Susanna White and starring Cynthia Erivo, recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). An adaptation of Suzie Miller’s stage play, the crime drama follows a barrister named Tessa who specializes in defending those accused of sexual assault before becoming a victim of sexual violence herself.

Following the premiere, Sony Pictures UK released the official trailer for the film. While the Toronto Film Festival described Erivo’s performance as “devastating and inspiring,” initial critical reception has been mixed, with some reviewers characterizing the adaptation as a “well-intentioned mess” or “lackluster” due to structural changes from the original production.

Sony Pictures UK has confirmed that the film is scheduled for theatrical release in the United Kingdom and Ireland on November 13, 2026. The supporting cast features Daniel Ings, Simon Russell Beale, and Elizabeth Dulau.
