British publisher Kwalee and indie developer Chris Cote have announced ‘Welcome to Elderfield’, a game that combines life-simulation and farming mechanics with H.P. Lovecraft-inspired cosmic horror.

Set in a rural village, the gameplay involves traditional activities such as fishing, mining, home decoration, and building relationships, alongside supernatural elements like investigating ‘Old Gods’ and exploring dungeons. The game features a hand-drawn horror-manga visual style and a lo-fi soundtrack by the artist Dated. Unique mechanics include cultivating unsettling items like teeth and eyeballs and managing livestock that resembles nightmares.

The title is scheduled for a September 10 release on Steam. It offers different playstyles, including an optional ‘Cozy Mode’ for peaceful farming and a higher-difficulty setting for combat and survival. A free demo is currently available on Steam.
