The dark fantasy metroidvania game ‘Well Dweller’, developed by brothers Kyle and Eric Thompson and published by Top Hat Studios, has been released across multiple platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Initial reception has been highly positive, with early reviews citing a Metacritic score of approximately 91 percent. Critics have praised the game’s atmosphere, level design, and artistic identity. The title is noted for its accessibility, serving as a potential entry point for players new to the genre. Gameplay follows a character named Glimmer, a small bird navigating a decaying kingdom to protect its family from an evil queen.

On September 23, 2026, the game was released in collaboration with Doyoyo Games. The title is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players control Glimmer, who utilizes matchsticks as weapons while exploring the kingdom. While the campaign is described as relatively compact, lasting about twelve hours, the high production quality and hand-drawn, fairy-tale aesthetic have been highlighted as significant strengths. Some critics have compared its quality to titles such as ‘Ender Lilies’.

Following its release, the game has been recognized as a notable entry in a highly competitive genre. It is specifically praised for offering a less intimidating experience than other titles that focus on extreme difficulty, maintaining player interest through engaging boss battles and steady progression without excessive frustration.
