Authorities in Livorno have launched investigations into reports of properties being used as unauthorized mosques. During a provincial committee meeting regarding order and security, Prefect Giancarlo Dionisi stated that while freedom of worship is guaranteed, it must be exercised in “regular and safe locations.”

The investigation seeks to determine if buildings officially designated for commercial, cultural, or artisanal use are being utilized for “stable and organized collective prayer.” If irregularities concerning urban planning, administrative, or building regulations are confirmed, the municipality will be responsible for taking action.

Susanna Ceccardi, a Member of the European Parliament for the Lega party, has called for the immediate closure of any non-compliant locations and urged Mayor Salvetti to ensure that rules are applied equally to all religious sites.
