Renault Group and EDF Group have partnered in France to launch an integrated electric vehicle (EV) solution focused on bidirectional charging technologies, such as vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H). The initiative aims to optimize energy use by allowing EV batteries to act as storage units that can feed energy back into homes or the electrical grid during peak demand, potentially lowering electricity bills and increasing grid flexibility.

The service, expected to roll out to private customers by summer 2027, will combine electric vehicles with home charging systems and smart management. Services will be available through Renault Group’s dealership network, with home charger installation managed by EDF subsidiary IZI and charging management provided by DREEV. The rollout will support bidirectional-capable models including the Renault 5, Renault Twingo, and Dacia Spring, as well as Alpine vehicles.

Early testing of the technology has already shown results, with one user in France reporting earnings between €35 and €50 per month by using a Mobilize bidirectional charging station with a Renault 5 to feed electricity back into the grid via the Mobilize Power service.
