Renewable energy and ecological initiatives are advancing across Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, developments include the commissioning of the 9.9 MW DeLasol North solar power plant in Lapovo and the progress of a 19 MWp solar project by Nova Alumina, which was expected to be completed by mid-October.

Recent expansion in the sector includes a 53 million convertible marks contract signed by Elektroprivreda BiH with the Turkish firm Girisim Elektrik Sanayi. This agreement covers the construction of two photovoltaic power plants, Gračanica 1 and 2, in the Bugojno municipality. With a combined installed capacity of 50 MWp, the project will be built on the former Gračanica coal mine external landfill, aiming to repurpose reclaimed mining land for clean energy production. Funding for this initiative is secured through cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and UniCredit Bank d. d. Mostar.

Regulatory and environmental efforts are also expanding. The Operator for Renewable Energy Sources and Efficient Cogeneration in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has partnered with European Energy Exchange AG to establish a registry for guarantees of origin for electricity. Meanwhile, in Serbia, a project supported by the European Union and Sweden is using fog catchers to restore peat bogs in Tara National Park to increase climate resilience.
