Slovakia is advancing renewable energy integration through both private sector agreements and new regulatory market tools.

In late August 2026, Orange Slovensko entered a ten-year physical Power Purchase Agreement with Austrian firm Enery. The deal involves sourcing electricity from a new 12.5 MWp solar power plant in the Banská Bystrica Region, which is expected to be operational by 2027. The agreement aims to cover approximately 83% of the plant’s output, potentially reducing CO2 emissions by 1,125 tons annually.

Following this, in September 2026, Slovakia implemented a renewable energy credit system managed by the Short-term Electricity Market Organizer (OKTE). This system allows electric vehicle charging station operators to earn transferable electronic credits for delivering renewable electricity to EV batteries. These credits can be sold to fuel suppliers to help meet legal requirements to increase the renewable energy share in transport to 27% by 2030.
