Republican officials and leaders have expressed growing concern regarding President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement strategies, particularly mass deportation plans. In early October, senators suggested these policies might alienate Latino and suburban voters, with some advocating for enforcement to focus strictly on those who have violated laws beyond immigration status. By late October, this tension became more localized in Maryland, where increased ICE activity—with arrests more than doubling in early 2026 compared to the previous year—has impacted Hispanic voters. Local leaders, such as Juan Leo Salazar of the Latin Republican Organization of Maryland, noted that the administration may be “overdoing it a little bit.” While some voters continue to support the administration due to economic priorities, polling indicates a potential shift in political allegiance. In Maryland, recent data shows a significant decline in expected Hispanic support for the Republican party compared to the 2024 election, as some community members feel they are facing “punitive actions.” ## Timeline ### 2026-10-28: Maryland Latino Republicans express concern over Trump immigration policies Maryland Latino Republicans are expressing concern over increased ICE enforcement and Trump's immigration policies, potentially impacting voter turnout for upcoming midterm elections. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/maryland-latino-republicans-express-concern-over-trump-immigration-policies ### 2026-10-08: Republicans express concern over Trump immigration policies Republican senators and candidates face political pressure as aggressive immigration enforcement and ICE tactics face growing scrutiny from voters ahead of elections. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/republicans-express-concern-over-trump-immigration-policies --- Cite as: Republican reaction to Trump immigration policies.
