A two-year study of 365 adults found that while omega-3 supplements increased docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels in cerebrospinal fluid, they did not improve memory or slow brain tissue loss. Subsequent research from Tufts University, utilizing target trial emulation, further questioned the link between fish intake and long-term Alzheimer’s risk. While researchers acknowledged fish as a healthy food choice, the study suggested it may not be a ‘magic bullet’ for disease prevention. These findings have sparked debate regarding the role of dietary supplements versus whole foods in neurodegenerative health.
