Following the February 2023 earthquakes, Turkey has been conducting extensive restoration of historic religious sites in the affected regions. In August 2026, the Bostancı Mosque in Gaziantep and the Mahmut Paşa Mosque in Şanlıurfa reopened for worship during Mevlid Kandili after structural reinforcements and repairs. Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy reported that the number of restored foundation works in the earthquake zone had reached 276.

By September 2026, the Sheikh Fethullah Mosque in Gaziantep also reopened after restoration efforts addressed both earthquake damage and long-term structural deterioration. Sinan Aksu, General Director of Foundations, stated that this was the 27th of 35 earthquake-damaged mosques to be reopened, with plans to complete the restoration of all historical mosques in Gaziantep in the following months.
