Historic buildings and palaces in Italy are undergoing various forms of restoration and repurposing to preserve architectural heritage.

In Matera and Puglia, aristocratic residences such as Palazzo Gattini and Palazzo Daniele have been converted into luxury hotels. These projects focus on integrating 16th- to 19th-century architecture, including original frescoes and cisterns, with modern hospitality amenities and contemporary art. In the Basilicata region, Palazzo Margherita in Bernalda, purchased by filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, underwent restoration to preserve stucco ornaments and frescoes. Other luxury conversions include Villa Spalletti Trivelli in Rome and the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni on Lake Como.

Regional public and cultural infrastructure projects are also advancing. In Gorgonzola, the Sala Argentia theater is receiving a 400,000 euro investment for upgrades, with a scheduled reopening in September. In Vicenza, a 1.8 million euro redevelopment plan for Palazzo Godi Nievo has commenced. In the Lazio region, officials are planning the recovery of the Cantinone at Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, while in Abruzzo, the Municipality of L'Aquila has launched a 2.5 million euro tender for the consolidation of Palazzo Oliva in Civita di Bagno to repair seismic damage.

New large-scale restoration and seismic upgrade projects have recently commenced. In Ferrara, the Province has handed over the Castello Estense site to a consortium led by Lares – Lavori di restauro di Venezia. This 11.6 million euro project aims to repair seismic damage and repurpose museum spaces, with a scheduled completion of August 31, 2030. Meanwhile, in Suzzara, work is progressing on the Teatro Guido to include seismic upgrades and functional repurposing. Although asbestos removal and cistern remediation have occurred, officials noted that “structural discontinuities in the scenic tower” may require additional reinforcement and could impact the original 700-day timeline.
