Sony Pictures has secured financing for a new film adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Treasure Island’, directed by Ridley Scott. The project features a screenplay by Jack Thorne and is positioned as a major worldwide adventure release.

During the promotion of his science-fiction film ‘The Dog Star’, Scott confirmed that casting is currently underway. While earlier reports were uncertain regarding his role, it has now been confirmed that Hugh Jackman will play the iconic pirate Long John Silver. 

Scott has expressed interest in recruiting British actor Owen Cooper, known for the series ‘Adolescence’, for the role of the protagonist, Jim Hawkins. Additionally, Scott mentioned his hope to cast Hugh Grant in an undisclosed role. Filming is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026.
