During a TikTok livestream for her cosmetics brand, Fenty Beauty, Rihanna revealed she has a large archive of unreleased music. Using a metaphor, she stated, “If there are 10 products in a vault, then I have at least 17 vaults,” implying she possesses at least 170 unreleased tracks.

The announcement follows a hiatus from studio albums since the 2016 release of ANTI. While no official release date for a ninth studio album—often referred to by fans as “R9”—has been announced, her partner A$AP Rocky confirmed in August that she has been active in the studio. Rihanna has previously indicated that her new music will reflect her current artistic evolution and that she refuses to release anything mediocre.
