Senegal and Mauritius are experiencing increases in road traffic accidents and fatalities. 

In Senegal, the National Road Safety Agency (ANASER) reported that 2025 saw 15,407 accidents, resulting in 868 deaths, 5,592 serious injuries, and 9,536 minor injuries, averaging more than 42 accidents daily. The Dakar region was the most heavily impacted, accounting for 55.5% of all national accidents.

In Mauritius, the vehicle fleet has expanded to 761,531 units. During the first half of the year, accidents rose by 11% compared to the previous year, totaling 21,845 incidents. Fatalities increased from 58 to 66 during the same period, with the total death toll since January exceeding 100. In response to these trends, the Mauritian government intends to tighten the Road Traffic Act to address dangerous driving and driving under the influence.
