# Robotic telesurgery implementation in Italy

The Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS has initiated a robotic telesurgery program in Rome, representing the first instance of Italian surgeons performing remote robotic surgeries on patients within Italy. 

Using the Toumai Laparoscopic Surgical System, surgeons operated from a console at Ospedale Isola Tiberina to perform procedures on patients located more than 10 kilometers away at Policlinico Gemelli. The initial experimental phase includes the removal of a prostate tumor and a colorectal neoplasm, with a goal to complete 20 interventions. The program aims to network expertise across Gemelli Group facilities and build a framework for future international remote surgical collaborations.
