The Roca City Alcalá project, which aims to transform a former industrial factory site into a sustainable eco-neighborhood in Madrid, was recently awarded the Territorial Management prize by the Comunidad de Madrid. The redevelopment plan involves converting the historic industrial land into a residential area containing more than 2,500 homes, including over 650 units under protection regimes, alongside green zones and community facilities.

Following the award, the CCOO labor union criticized the proposal, alleging that it prioritizes “real estate speculation” over social needs. The union is demanding that authorities secure commitments for employment stability related to the former Roca plant and provide specific housing guarantees. CCOO has called for at least 1,500 households to be protected through public housing, with a target of 1,000 units designated for affordable rent.
