The investigation into the death of Rojin Kabaiş, a university student found near Lake Van, has centered on conflicting forensic, medical, and digital evidence.

Medical inquiries have focused on the presence of Rocuronium, a muscle relaxant, in her organs. The family’s legal representative alleges Kabaiş was murdered via drugging with Ornidazole and Rocuronium, arguing the substance’s short half-life contradicts claims that it originated from a previous surgery. Conversely, the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) stated the substance could be consistent with her prior surgery and found no evidence of poisoning or traumatic injury. Authorities are also awaiting diatom test results to clarify whether she drowned or died before entering the water.

Digital forensics have revealed that Kabaiş’s Google account was accessed via SMS on October 1, 2024, while she was missing. A ‘device deletion’ command was executed on October 10, 2024, from IP addresses linked to Van and the Czech Republic, occurring while the device was in custody at the Van Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory. 

Further complications include the discovery of DNA from two different men in the deceased’s chest and vaginal areas. Investigators are also examining recent Instagram communications between Kabaiş and a research assistant, M. Ç., noting that the individual appeared on the same cell tower signal as the student on the day of her disappearance.
