The Romanian Parliament has moved to grant merit indemnities to the members of the Steaua București football team that won the European Cup in 1986. 

Initially, the Romanian Senate approved a legislative amendment to Law 118/2002, which seeks to include the 1986 championship-winning squad among the prestigious personalities in science, culture, and sports eligible for state-funded indemnities. Following the Senate's vote, the Chamber of Deputies unanimously passed the project. 

Under the finalized legislation, eligible players are expected to receive a monthly amount of approximately 6,240 lei. The law also aims to extend these benefits to other high-achieving athletes, such as handball players from CSM București, provided they meet specific legal criteria. The measure now awaits promulgation by the President before being published in the Official Gazette to take effect.
