Mayor Roberto Gualtieri has expanded his administration’s long-term vision for Rome, focusing on large-scale modernization and infrastructure. He reported that of over 1,200 projects either completed or underway, 710 have been finished. While the density of construction sites initially caused public inconvenience, Gualtieri noted that citizen perception has begun to shift positively.

Key strategic priorities include the digital transition, supported by over one billion euros in investment and the introduction of ‘Julia,’ a virtual municipal assistant. Infrastructure goals involve the expansion of Metro C, a waste-to-energy plant in Santa Palomba, and the revitalization of the Tiber River and Ostia. Additionally, the Mayor is preparing for the upcoming Jubilee, addressing beach concession regulations, and has suggested Rome consider bidding for the 2036 or 2040 Olympic Games.

However, the administration faces new political pressures regarding municipal school maintenance. Six members of the majority coalition have formally requested renewed commitments to the upkeep of school buildings and green spaces, questioning the effectiveness of the 15 million euros allocated for greenery between 2024 and 2026.

Looking toward the 2027 municipal elections, the political landscape is shifting. The opposition Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) has expressed openness to discussing potential alliances with Gualtieri’s supporters. Linda Meleo, president of the M5S council group, indicated that discussions should focus on thematic issues rather than power struggles, suggesting the possibility of a progressive coalition if specific policy demands are met.
