# Rosenburg hydroelectric power plant modernization

The energy provider EVN has announced the commencement of modernization works at the Rosenburg hydroelectric power plant in Lower Austria. The project aims to upgrade technical equipment and the power plant building while repairing the dam wall.

Following a compromise with environmental groups and legal counsel, the project focuses on facility renovation rather than expansion to avoid legal disputes. The upgrades, including new turbines and control technology, are expected to increase capacity from 0.9 megawatts to 1.4 megawatts. Ecological measures will also be implemented, such as increasing water volume around the bypass island. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2027, with full commissioning expected by autumn 2028.
