Rot-Weiss Essen has been navigating a squad crisis in the German 3. Liga caused by injuries to key players such as Tony Menzel, Nick Bätzner, and Max Geschwill. These absences led the club to pause a planned transfer for free agent Florian Engelhardt due to muscular issues and prompted discussions regarding the promotion of 17-year-old winger Fadih Vasic from the youth academy to the professional squad.

Despite these injury challenges, particularly in the midfield, data analysis has identified the club as having the strongest squad in the league and a top candidate for promotion. Coach Uwe Koschinat has reported a “small wave” of momentum following recent performances, noting that the team's underlying personnel quality remains a distinguishing factor.

The injury crisis has since expanded to include players such as Jaka Cuber Potocnik, further depleting offensive options. In response, club officials have decided against signing emergency free agents before the winter transfer window, choosing instead to evaluate the situation in the new year. To manage the shortage, Koschinat is relying on youth talents Rami Malaeb and Fadih Vasic, both of whom were recently promoted to professional contracts.

As the team prepares for a DFB-Pokal match against RB Leipzig, Koschinat is focusing on tactical discipline to bridge gaps in individual quality. The club aims to leverage its strong home form at the Hafenstraße stadium to secure an upset against the top-tier side.
