Participants of the RTLZWEI social documentary series ‘Hartz und herzlich’ have faced individual hardships and public scrutiny. In Trier, a single father receiving Bürgergeld faces potential homelessness and an eviction lawsuit following financial struggles after leaving his job to care for his daughter. In Mannheim, a long-time participant engaged in online confrontations on TikTok, defending her reliance on state benefits by telling critics, ‘Yes, keep paying!’

Following these developments, RTLZWEI confirmed the production of a third season centered on Trier-West. The new episodes, featuring returning participants, are scheduled to begin airing on November 3. A special episode is also planned for November 24 to address broader social issues, including poverty combatting approaches and changes to the social welfare system.
