Russian influence operations in Europe have seen a significant increase in sophistication and frequency. Researchers identified hundreds of instances where fake content was used to impersonate reputable Western media brands across dozens of countries. Alongside these disinformation campaigns, investigations in Germany and Slovakia have linked Russian military intelligence to physical sabotage, including arson attacks targeting defense companies and drone manufacturing plants.

In response to the ongoing conflict, an underground Russian resistance movement has emerged. According to a documentary by ARD, individuals working with Ukrainian intelligence are conducting sabotage operations within Russia. These activities involve using improvised explosives and armed drones to target military infrastructure, such as long-range bombers, in what has been described as a ‘shadow war’ of agents and double agents.
