In early August 2026, the country launched the African Academy for Women in Political Leadership in Kigali. Supported by the United Nations Development Programme, the African Union Commission, and the African Women Leaders Network, the academy enrolled an initial cohort of 40 women from Africa and the Caribbean, including ministers and legislators, to study governance and strategic communications. Later in August, a delegation of Nigerian policymakers and academics visited Kigali to study Rwanda’s models for peacebuilding, national unity, and digital governance.
