Sailing competitions have been held in Reggio Calabria, featuring various formats and vessel classes. The XXI Royal Edition of the Regata del Mediterraneo introduced a night racing format in the Strait, utilizing illuminated towers to support evening competition for crews from Italy and Malta. This event also included educational workshops regarding professional sports discipline.

Following this, the Mediterranean Trophy, also known as the 1st Luca Attanasio Trophy, was scheduled for late October and early November. This regatta focused on ‘classe altura’ vessels and was organized through a collaboration between Circolo Velico Reggio and the Lega Navale Italiana to foster sporting synergy between Reggio Calabria and Messina.
