The project, which began after the municipality acquired the historic site in 2022, involved the redevelopment of approximately 9,000 square meters of space, including the Sant’Egidio church and a one-hectare Italian-style garden named after Pope Nicholas IV. Funding for the restoration was provided through PNRR and Sisma funds. The revitalized complex is designed to serve various public and social functions through a public-private partnership, including residential units, a solidarity healthcare hub, a third-sector management center, and an ethical hotel and restaurant facility. While the inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the event has sparked political debate. The Partito Democratico (PD) criticized the proceedings, alleging that the civic significance of the restoration was “overshadowed by political propaganda and institutional mobilization intended to bolster the government’s leadership.” ## Timeline ### 2026-10-08: Ascoli Piceno inaugurates Palazzo Saladini Pilastri amid political debate The inauguration of the restored Palazzo Saladini Pilastri in Ascoli Piceno, attended by Giorgia Meloni, has drawn criticism from the PD over perceived political propaganda. 20 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/palazzo-saladini-pilastri-restoration-completed-in-ascoli ### 2026-10-06: Giorgia Meloni to attend Saladini Pilastri restoration in Ascoli Piceno Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will attend the inauguration of the restored Saladini Pilastri residence in Ascoli Piceno on October 8, marking the completion of a 39 million euro urban regeneration project. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/giorgia-meloni-to-attend-saladini-pilastri-restoration-in-ascoli-piceno --- Cite as: Saladini Pilastri restoration in Ascoli Piceno.
