Salford is marking the centenary of its city status, which was officially granted by King George V in 1926. The city has highlighted its historical significance, including its role in labor history and early urban infrastructure.

To commemorate the milestone, the Salford City Council established the Salford Centenary Medal to recognize organizations that contribute significantly to local communities. Recipients include the Salford City FC Foundation. Cultural events are also being held to mark the occasion, such as the ‘Songs of Salford’ musical performance featuring the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and local artists.
