U.C. Sampdoria has officially appointed Luca D’Angelo as the new head coach of its first team. D’Angelo, who has previous experience in Serie B with clubs such as Pisa and Spezia, signed a contract running until June 30, 2028. He succeeds Bernardo Corradi, who was dismissed following a period of poor results that left the club at the bottom of the Serie B standings.

In D’Angelo’s debut match against Südtirol at the Druso stadium, Sampdoria was held to a 1-1 draw. Yari Verschaeren opened the scoring for the visitors in the 34th minute with a long-range strike, marking his first goal for the club. However, the match turned in stoppage time when a penalty was awarded to Südtirol following a handball by Di Pardo. Salvatore Molina converted the spot-kick in the 96th minute to equalize. This result leaves Sampdoria in the penultimate position of the league standings.

Following the match, observers noted signs of increased tactical organization and defensive solidity under D’Angelo. Former player Enrico Nicolini praised the progress, stating the squad appeared more solid and less prone to conceding goals, specifically endorsing D’Angelo’s coaching approach.

Despite these improvements, the club faces logistical and personnel challenges. The team must manage a long journey of over 600 kilometers to Marche for an upcoming away match against Ascoli, while also dealing with squad depth issues, including the loss of Fabio Depaoli to injury and the physical fatigue of players such as Ferrari.
