The ‘Furthur’ bus, a 1939 school bus modified by Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, has been returned to San Francisco from Eugene, Oregon. The vehicle, which served as a symbol of the 1960s counterculture movement and the 1967 Human Be-In, was brought back to the city by Zane Kesey.

Following its return, the bus became a centerpiece of a new exhibition titled ‘Forever Grateful/Golden Gate Park’ at the County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park. Organized by the Haight Street Art Center, the exhibit also features Jerry Garcia’s BMW and aims to celebrate the legacy of the Grateful Dead and the era’s cultural impact through art and music.

The exhibition has officially opened as a two-part tribute. It features immersive experiences including liquid light shows and phone booths for visitor storytelling, alongside various artifacts such as guitars, photography, and art. While the Haight Street Art Center portion of the tribute runs through September 20, the experiential display at Golden Gate Park is scheduled to continue until October 25.
