In late July 2026 Governor Marcelo Orrego led a delegation from San Juan Province to London, Boston and New York to market a prospective “Bono San Juan” bond for roads, water‑supply and energy projects. In London the team held four private meetings arranged by J.P. Morgan and Banco Santander, underscoring the province’s fiscal balance, low debt, leadership in solar power, agro‑industry and upcoming large‑scale copper projects. Investors praised San Juan’s public‑financial discipline and signalled interest, with the delegation planning further outreach in the United States.

On 2 August Orrego reiterated that the tour had positioned San Juan as one of Argentina’s strongest sub‑national credits and confirmed continued interest from global asset managers.

On 5 August the province signed a historic $250 million non‑refundable advance with Minera Vicuña Argentina, a BHP‑Lundin joint venture. The funds will be placed in a dedicated infrastructure trust for a new 500 kV power line, the “Corredor Norte” road linking the Angualasto area to the Vicuña mine, and other water and sanitation works. The agreement creates a 1.5 % contribution of gross sales after the sixth year and a 3 % royalty for the mine’s life, resolving a 2022 environmental‑impact dispute and awaiting provincial legislative ratification. The Vicuña copper project, valued at about US$9.7 billion, is expected to produce roughly 400 000 t of copper annually and generate thousands of jobs, reinforcing San Juan’s role as a regional copper hub.

Both the bond outreach and the mining advance are expected to fund the province’s broader development agenda and diversify its economy.
