Medical staff at the Samodzielny Publiczny Zespół Opieki Zdrowotnej (SP ZOZ) in Sanok, Poland, initiated a hunger strike to protest management issues and the leadership of Director Wioletta Kacperska. Approximately 50 employees participated in the protest, which intensified as strikers transitioned to consuming only water. The physical toll led to several participants requiring emergency medical intervention due to exhaustion.

Despite the protest, staff continued to fulfill professional duties and patient care. The strikers cited a lack of dialogue, concerns over patient safety, and legal actions against trade unions as primary drivers for their demands, specifically the dismissal of the hospital director.

Negotiations between the Sanok County Board and trade unions failed to reach an agreement. Unions, including the Union of Nurses and Midwives and NSZZ ‘Solidarność’, characterized the director’s management style as “corporate and authoritarian.” While Sanok Starosta Robert Pieszczoch proposed mediation, some unions refused to participate, stating there were no grounds for the director's removal. 

The OZZPiP (All-Poland Union of Employees of Health Care Facilities) issued an ultimatum demanding the director's dismissal, settlement of unpaid wages and social security contributions, and a social repair plan. Unions have also indicated they are considering legal action and notifying the prosecutor's office regarding unpaid jubilee awards and severance pay.
