Authorities in the Dominican Republic have taken significant steps in the investigation into the April killing of Deivy Carlos Abreu Quezada, a 41-year-old garbage truck driver. The victim was pursued by a group of motorcyclists from Circunvalación Sur to the Santiago Palace of Justice parking lot, where he was killed with knives and blunt objects.

Jhovanny de Jesús Metz Cruz, known as ‘Macho’, identified as the primary suspect, was captured in Jamaica and deported to the Dominican Republic via a coordinated operation involving Interpol and migration authorities. 

Following his repatriation, a judicial hearing was scheduled for October 23 in Santiago to determine coercion measures against Metz Cruz. The Public Ministry is seeking 12 months of preventive detention for him. Seven other individuals involved in the pursuit are currently serving preventive detention.
