The Dominican Republic government, through the Corporation of the Aqueduct and Sewerage of Santo Domingo (CAASD), has implemented several sanitation and drainage initiatives in the Santo Domingo area. On October 16, 2026, President Luis Abinader and CAASD completed an RD$188.6 million project for the El Indio and Buenos Aires ravines in Herrera. This intervention, which includes the installation of streets, lighting, and recreational areas, aims to address pollution and flooding issues that residents reported had persisted for over 50 years. This work is part of a broader effort to sanitize 63 kilometers of ravines in Greater Santo Domingo. By October 20, 2026, CAASD director Fellito Suberví launched a new sanitation project for the Boronota ravine in Villa Mella. This project involves an investment exceeding RD$228.1 million to benefit approximately 12,000 residents. The works include covering 869.22 linear meters of the ravine with large-diameter pipes, constructing storm drains and sanitary manholes, and repairing 50 homes. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: Infrastructure projects launched in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Ecuador Major infrastructure developments are underway in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, via a sanitation project, and in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador, with a new $20 million meat processing center. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/infrastructure-projects-launched-in-santo-domingo-dominican-republic-and-ecuador ### 2026-10-16: Santo Domingo: Government completes RD$188.6 million sanitation project President Luis Abinader inaugurated an RD$188.6 million sanitation and urban renewal project in Herrera, Santo Domingo, benefiting over 25,000 residents by transforming ravines into community spaces. 13 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/spanish-municipalities-approve-urban-and-heritage-restoration-projects --- Cite as: Santo Domingo urban sanitation projects.
