Recent developments involve the release and exhibition of historical photographic archives documenting the siege of Sarajevo.

Initially, the group Sniper Alley released 75 previously unseen photographs captured by American photojournalist Martin Sugarman. These images provide a visual record of the period characterized by daily shelling, sniper fire, and extreme shortages.

Subsequently, the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina launched an exhibition titled ‘Sarajevo 1992–1996 – The Longest Siege’ as part of its annual Museum Month. This exhibition features black-and-white photographs by Italian photojournalist Mario Boccia, which focus on civil resistance and the daily lives of residents. The museum intends for these works to complement its permanent ‘Besieged Sarajevo’ installation, serving as historical testimony and a resource for research into the lived experiences of the conflict.

The exhibition, which includes approximately fifty black and white photographs, has officially opened. Boccia’s work emphasizes civilian resistance, human dignity, and efforts to maintain normalcy, featuring subjects such as a local flower seller and the editorial office of Oslobođenje. During the opening, Sarajevo Mayor Samir Avdić attended the event, expressing gratitude to Boccia and the Italian community for preserving the historical memory of the siege. A notable moment occurred when Boccia reunited with a woman he had photographed during the war more than three decades ago. The exhibition is scheduled to remain open throughout November.
