The Saudi Arabian government has announced a series of economic measures involving utility tariff adjustments and labor market regulations. To offset upcoming increases in electricity and water rates scheduled for January 1, 2027, the government will implement monthly allowances of 500 riyals for various groups, including retirees, civil and military employees, and social security beneficiaries.

In tandem with these utility changes, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development is implementing reforms to the labor market. This includes the use of the ‘Ajeer’ platform to facilitate temporary work arrangements in sectors such as construction, maintenance, and education. Additionally, the government is phasing in minimum wage increases for the ‘Nitaqat’ Saudization program. The minimum wage required for a Saudi employee to be fully counted toward localization ratios is set to rise to 5,000 riyals by April 2027, and subsequently to 6,000 riyals by April 2028.
