Recent scientific studies have provided new data regarding the mechanisms and timelines of biological aging. Research published in Cerebral Cortex indicates that declines in associative memory may begin as early as age 50 to 60, with individuals in this bracket being twice as likely to struggle with such associations compared to those in their twenties.

Furthering the understanding of cellular changes, the PsychAD consortium released an atlas of over 6.3 million unique cells in the prefrontal cortex to study how aging and neurodegenerative diseases affect specific cell types.

Subsequent findings from the Spanish National Research Service (ISCIII) suggest that chronic viral infections can accelerate cellular aging by maintaining the immune system in a state of persistent inflammation. Additionally, research from the Chinese Academy of Sciences identified an inflection point around age 50, where proteomic changes indicate an acceleration in organ function deterioration, particularly within the blood vessels.
