Health authorities in Mexico are responding to significant scorpion sting incidents and rising epidemiological trends. In Durango, a three-year-old child died in Topia after a suspected sting was initially mistaken for the flu. The Durango Health Secretariat noted that while the private clinic visited lacked the necessary antivenom, Alacramyn, the medication is reportedly available in public health units. This death occurred amid a trend where more than 6,000 people in the region reported stings in 2026.

In late August, medical emergency responses were highlighted in rural Braciles, where a one-year-old and eight-month-old baby was stabilized after being stung. Local police assisted in transporting a doctor with antivenom to the remote area.

In Guanajuato, the State Health Secretariat reported that 37,218 cases of scorpion sting intoxication had been treated through July 2026. Health Secretary Gabriel Cortés Alcalá stated that medical units maintain sufficient antivenom supplies and are conducting permanent surveillance. Authorities have advised the public to take preventative measures, such as sealing wall cracks and cleaning yards, and to seek immediate medical attention for symptoms like intense pain or excessive salivation.
