Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian recently provided recollections regarding the 1983 dismissal of Dave Mustaine from Metallica during an appearance on the podcast ‘The Magnificent Others’.

Ian described learning of the decision from bassist Cliff Burton, noting that he initially believed the news was a joke. The dismissal was later confirmed by Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield. Ian stated that the band had been considering the decision since arriving in New York and had already planned to hire Kirk Hammett from Exodus as a replacement. Ian also expressed relief that the event did not result in the cancellation of scheduled performances involving Anthrax and Metallica.
