Chinese entertainers have recently faced public scrutiny regarding their professional standards during live performances. Initial debates centered on stage attire, with media outlets and observers criticizing female artists for wearing clothing described as ‘revealing’ or ‘immodest’. High-profile performers, including Zhao Lusi, Xue Kaiqi, Shan Yichun, Zhang Liangying, and Na Ying, were singled out for outfits that some argued shifted focus away from their musical talents.

This scrutiny expanded to include allegations of unprofessionalism during the ‘Moonlight Bay’ arts festival. Actors such as Zhang Linghe, Meng Ziyi, Zhang Ruoyun, and Ou Yang Na Na faced backlash on social media for perceived lack of preparation and lyrical errors. Additionally, controversies emerged regarding technical execution, specifically allegations of lip-syncing and the use of vocal aids, leading to debates over whether celebrities are ‘occupying the resources’ of professional singers.
