Officials noted the individual has “significant cognitive fragility,” does not speak Italian, and may hide in private spaces or vegetation when frightened. Residents were advised to maintain visual contact from a distance without approaching him. Search operations have expanded across the rugged Maremma scrubland, involving the Vigili del Fuoco, Carabinieri, Carabinieri Forestali, and the Italian Red Cross. Specialized personnel have utilized drones, canine units, and the firefighting helicopter Drago 126 for aerial surveys. Concerns have been raised regarding the man’s access to food, water, and necessary medications, though he is described as an experienced trekker. Despite these efforts, no trace of the man has been found. The search is being coordinated with the prefectures of Livorno and Pisa to extend operations beyond the province of Grosseto. The missing man was last seen wearing a maroon shirt, green shorts, and sandals. Specialized teams equipped with cadaver dogs are scheduled to join the search starting October 15. Authorities continue to urge the public not to approach the individual if spotted, but to contact emergency services immediately. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-09: Search expands for missing Swiss man in Monterotondo Marittimo Search efforts for a missing 48-year-old Swiss man in Monterotondo Marittimo will expand to include cadaver dogs on October 15 following unsuccessful searches in the rugged Frassine area. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/search-expands-for-missing-swiss-man-in-monterotondo-marittimo ### 2026-10-06: Monterotondo Marittimo: Search expands for missing Swiss national Search efforts are expanding in Monterotondo Marittimo for a 48-year-old Swiss man missing since October 2 in the rugged Maremma region. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/monterotondo-marittimo-search-expands-for-missing-swiss-national ### 2026-10-03: Monterotondo Marittimo searches for missing Swiss national Search operations are underway in Monterotondo Marittimo for a missing Swiss man with cognitive fragility who may hide when approached. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/monterotondo-marittimo-searches-for-missing-swiss-national --- Cite as: Search for missing Swiss national in Monterotondo Marittimo.
