Developments: 2. Search operations have been underway in the Ñuñorco Grande mountain area of Tafí del Valle, Tucumán, to locate Raúl Alfredo Moyano, a 59-year-old retired teacher. Moyano has been missing since October 12 after embarking on a solo hike. Initial search efforts involved the Tucumán Police, Gendarmería Nacional, and specialized mountain rescue teams. To assist in the operation, authorities utilized a provincial helicopter and drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras. Investigators previously identified a cell phone signal near Los Sarmientos and recovered a book belonging to the teacher in a difficult-to-access area. As the search continued, special forces from the C.E.R.O. Directorate conducted high-altitude inspections at elevations of approximately 3,000 meters, covering areas such as Los Teritos and Mesada de Ñuñorco. The operation has faced significant logistical challenges due to adverse weather conditions, including rain, snow, fog, and low temperatures. By October 24, search efforts intensified in the Ñuñorco hill area of El Mollar. More than 100 rescuers, including specialized units from the C.E.R.O. Special Forces Group, have established an advanced camp at elevations between 3,100 and 3,300 meters to facilitate operations in steep ravines and dense vegetation. Rescuers are concentrating on the southeastern sectors, including areas such as El Indio, Los Teritos, and Mula Corral, guided by the previously detected cell phone signal. Despite the deployment of specialized dogs and logistical support from the El Mollar Rural Commune, adverse weather conditions like rain, fog, and snow continue to limit the effectiveness of drones and search efforts. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-24: Raúl Moyano search continues in Tucumán mountains Rescuers continue searching for retired teacher Raúl Moyano, missing since October 12 in Tucumán's Ñuñorco Grande mountain. 17 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/search-for-missing-teacher-ral-moyano-continues-in-cerro-uorco ### 2026-10-21: Tucumán search intensifies for missing teacher Raúl Moyano Search teams in Tucumán, Argentina, are using helicopters, thermal drones, and mountain camps to find retired teacher Raúl Moyano, who has been missing in the Ñuñorco mountains since October 12. 10 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/search-efforts-continue-for-missing-hiker-on-cerro-uorco --- Cite as: Search for missing teacher in Tucumán.
