The trial of Sebastian Majtczak continues in the Piotrków Trybunalski District Court regarding the September 16, 2023, fatal collision on the A1 motorway that killed a husband, wife, and their five-year-old son.

Recent expert testimony has provided a significant breakthrough, refuting defense theories regarding the victims' vehicle. Forensic evidence, including digital data from both vehicles, dashcam footage, and road markings, confirmed that the Kia was maintaining approximately 140 km/h on cruise control. Experts determined that the BMW driven by Majtczak was traveling at extreme speeds between 315 and 329 km/h, noting they had never encountered such high speeds in their professional careers. This evidence supports the finding that the BMW struck the Kia, rather than the Kia cutting off the BMW.

The proceedings have also faced procedural and courtroom complications. One of Majtczak’s newly hired defense attorneys, Marcin Jakubowski, was forced to leave the courtroom after it was revealed he remains formally employed by Grupa Azoty, a status that legally prevents him from acting as defense counsel while holding a standard employment contract. Additionally, the hearing was disrupted by an observer who shouted at the judge and criticized the expert findings, calling the trial a “farce.”

Majtczak, who was returned to Poland from the United Arab Emirates in May 2025, remains in custody.
