In mid-October 2026, the Central African Republic military conducted preemptive air strikes and ground operations in the Vakaga prefecture, located in the ‘three borders’ zone near Chad and Sudan. The Ministry of Defense stated these operations, carried out in coordination with Russian military specialists, were intended to neutralize foreign mercenaries planning attacks against Central African Armed Forces positions. Following these operations, diplomatic tensions escalated between the Central African Republic and Chad. Chadian authorities reported that the military intervention allegedly resulted in several deaths among Chadian military personnel. In response, N’Djaména summoned the Central African ambassador to express formal indignation. Consequently, Chad has reinforced its military presence along the border, leading to increased apprehension among local populations as the regional security situation deteriorates. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-19: Chad reinforces military presence on Central African Republic border Chad is reportedly reinforcing its military presence along the border with the Central African Republic following a fatal military operation in CAR that has triggered severe diplomatic tensions. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/chad-reinforces-military-presence-on-central-african-republic-border ### 2026-10-11: Central African Republic military conducts air strikes in northeast border region The Central African Republic military conducted air and ground strikes against armed groups in the Vakaga region near the borders of Chad and Sudan to prevent an imminent attack. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/central-african-republic-military-conducts-air-strikes-in-northeast-border-region --- Cite as: Security crisis on the Chad-Central African Republic border.
