Developments: 2. Security concerns and student unrest have led to disruptions at various UNAM campuses in Mexico City. On October 7, academic activities were suspended at UNAM’s Escuela Nacional Preparatoria Plantel 1 in Xochimilco after a group of approximately 20 hooded individuals attempted to seize control of the campus and administrative offices. The protesters were reportedly demanding attention to grievances including allegations of harassment and abuse. The confrontation resulted in a physical struggle and an injury to a second-year student. The Defensoría de los Derechos Universitarios has launched an investigation into the incident. By October 12, the Colegio de Ciencias y Humanidades (CCH) Sur resumed in-person classes following a suspension triggered by security issues and the vandalism of campus turnstiles. To address safety concerns, the administration implemented new protocols, including restricted access through a single entrance and mandatory presentation of identification or course schedules for entry. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-12: UNAM's CCH Sur resumes in-person classes after security issues UNAM's CCH Sur is resuming in-person classes following security concerns and vandalism, implementing strict ID requirements and restricted campus access. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/unams-cch-sur-resumes-in-person-classes-after-security-issues ### 2026-10-07: UNAM suspends classes at Prepa 1 following student confrontation UNAM suspended classes at Prepa 1 in Xochimilco after hooded protesters attempted to take the campus, resulting in a physical confrontation and one student being injured. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/unam-prepa-1-student-injured-during-fight-in-xochimilco --- Cite as: Security disruptions at UNAM campuses.
