On the evening of October 6, 2026, an armed man was shot and injured by police outside the Stockholm Royal Palace at Lejonbacken. The incident began around 18:30 local time when an aggressive individual brandishing a knife approached palace guards and reportedly asked to be shot.

Police initially attempted to subdue the suspect with a taser, but after those attempts failed, officers discharged firearms, hitting the man in the legs. The suspect was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

While the incident occurred near a time when Crown Princess Victoria had been at the palace for a charitable meeting, the Royal House confirmed that no members of the royal family were present in the building when the shots were fired. Authorities have cordoned off the area to conduct an investigation involving surveillance footage and witness interviews, focusing on threats against officials and knife law violations.
