Romania has experienced a period of increased seismic activity throughout August and September 2026.

In late August, a magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck the Vrancea seismic zone at a depth of 98 kilometers. This event followed a series of eight earthquakes recorded in the region since the start of the month. 

By mid-September, seismic activity continued with a magnitude 3.1 earthquake in Suceava County. This followed a magnitude 4.1 earthquake in the Vrancea-Buzău zone on September 6. In total, 12 earthquakes with magnitudes between 2 and 4.1 were recorded in the country during the first half of September.
