A partnership between the national press company Le Soleil and the African Center for School and University Complementarity and Promotion (CACSUP) was established to focus on professional training and youth employment, including the provision of 30 annual half-scholarships. Additionally, the Senegalese Association for the Promotion of Books and Reading (PLL) held its inaugural literary symposium in Dakar to foster mentorship between established and emerging authors. Recent evaluation results from the 2024 Programme d’analyse des systèmes éducatifs (PASEC) indicate significant progress in fundamental learning. Senegal reported that 62.5% of evaluated primary students reached competency thresholds in reading and 59.6% reached competency in mathematics, both of which exceeded regional averages. The data suggests that using national languages in early education improves reading performance compared to French instruction. In response, the Minister of National Education, Moustapha Guirassy, indicated interest in expanding the use of national languages to mathematics instruction. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-23: Senegal shows strong educational progress in PASEC 2024 results Senegal outperformed regional averages in reading and mathematics in the PASEC 2024 evaluation, with national language instruction showing significant benefits for early literacy. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/senegal-shows-strong-educational-progress-in-pasec-2024-results ### 2026-10-16: Senegal advances education and literary mentorship initiatives Senegal sees new developments in education and culture as Le Soleil partners with CACSUP for scholarships, and the PLL launches a literary symposium focused on intergenerational mentorship. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/senegal-advances-education-and-literary-mentorship-initiatives --- Cite as: Senegal education and literacy developments.
