In late July 2026 Senegal’s leadership was publicly addressing internal political disputes that risked undermining the country’s investment climate and diplomatic standing.

On 22 July, Lansana Gagny Sakho, head of the investment promotion agency APIX‑SA, reaffirmed his support for President Bassirou Diakhar Diomaye Faye’s political line. He warned that any defiant stance toward the international community could damage Senegal’s reputation and investor confidence, and pledged that the agency would continue to back diplomatic normalisation and strategic projects.

Four days later, on 26 July, Interior Minister Abdourahmane Diouf called for the abandonment of what he termed “populist sovereignism,” arguing that the rhetoric had eroded partner trust and harmed the business environment. He criticised the parliamentary majority for obstructing the president’s agenda, urged supporters to back the president, and advocated for a more cooperative National Assembly to restore credibility and advance development projects.

Together, the statements illustrate a coordinated effort by Senegal’s executive to curb nationalist rhetoric, reassure foreign investors, and seek legislative alignment in order to stabilise the country’s economic reforms and international image.
