The broadcasting industry is transitioning toward ‘Radio 3.0,’ a model focused on multiplatform engagement through live audio delivery. 

In support of these technological shifts, the Sennheiser Group has introduced its Spectera ecosystem, a bidirectional broadband wireless platform. Sennheiser has commenced shipping the Spectera SKM handheld transmitter, a move that completes the core components of the company’s ecosystem. Designed for professional use in live sound, theatre, broadcast, and places of worship, the device utilizes a ‘WMAS approach’ to provide ultra-low-latency wireless audio. The transmitter is available in both UHF and 1.4 GHz variants.

At LEaT con 2026, Sennheiser detailed that the Spectera system utilizes a combination of OFDM, TDMA, and TDD technologies, allowing microphone and in-ear signals to operate simultaneously within a single TV channel. The system integrates audio, control, and monitoring data into the same RF broadband channel, which eliminates the need for a separate wireless control network. This allows engineers to remotely adjust parameters like gain and low-cut while monitoring real-time data such as battery status, RF performance, and signal strength.

Additionally, partner SoundBase has updated its manufacturer-independent RF planning and management software to support Spectera. This includes a new ‘Remote View’ feature, which allows live monitoring data to be shared across a production network with other team members using a single license to reduce network load.
