As part of the international operation ‘Silentium’, Serbian and German authorities dismantled a major infrastructure used for large-scale telephone fraud. Serbian police arrested two men, aged 26 and 27, in Smederevo on October 7.

The suspects allegedly provided Voice over IP (VoIP) services that enabled fraudsters to spoof caller IDs, allowing them to impersonate bank employees or police officers. German investigators reported that this infrastructure was used to facilitate at least 600,000 calls linked to more than 18,000 fraud cases.

While 70 confirmed cases resulted in damages of approximately 764,000 euros, the total revenue generated by providing these services is estimated to exceed 1.6 million euros. The operation, conducted as part of the EMPACT cycle, also led to the seizure of domains, servers, and Telegram accounts in Germany. German authorities are expected to request the extradition of the suspects from Serbia.
